April 26, 2020 UPDATE
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, we know how much you are all missing seeing your friends and playing basketball. This is provided to give you an update on the current state of domestic basketball due to COVID-19.
The Sharks’ current priority continues to remain to make decisions that ensure the health and wellbeing of all players, coaches, volunteers and families.
In line with Basketball Victoria’s directive, due to stage 3 restrictions and extension of the State of Emergency until May 11 by the Victorian Government, Winter 2020 domestic basketball seasons across the State are suspended until at least 31 May 2020. This date is being regularly reviewed and updated and as stated by Basketball Victoria in their most recent COVID-19 update (23 April), “there is an expectation that there will be some form of competition this year”.
Victoria’s basketball response to COVID-19 is a co-ordinated one. Our domestic club is maintaining contact with Southern Basketball Association and other domestic clubs to plan a way forward. This includes discussions around how the competition will recommence as well as refund policies.
With uncertainty around the start date of the domestic competition, it is natural that the question of refunds comes up. As stated previously, the Sharks will consider requests for individual refunds of Sharks fees to members who are experiencing financial hardship. Please contact Kathy at [email protected] if you are in this position.
We hold all Sharks winter registrations in our bank account and will continue to review our refund policies reflecting decisions made by Basketball Victoria and the SBA.
In the meantime, to (partially) satisfy your love of the game there is lots of online basketball activity to participate in. A lot of this activity is being posted on the Beaumaris Sharks Facebook page so we encourage to sign up and become a part of our online community. The Southern Basketball Association continue to post Workout Challenges on their website and social media platforms as well. Basketball Victoria is also offering a range of COVID-19 updates and resources.

We are thinking of all our players and their families during this difficult time for our community. Stay safe and keep bouncing. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
March 20, 2020 UPDATE
Dear Parents, Guardians and Members,
Please read this important update from Beaumaris Sharks Basketball in relation to the suspension of the SBA competition due to COVID-19 and registration for Winter 2020 season.
Bushfires + COVID-19 has meant an unsettling and challenging time for all. The health and wellbeing of everyone in the community continues to be the priority.
The Sharks are in close communication with the Southern Basketball Association who are working with and following directives from Basketball Victoria and Government with regard to basketball competitions and training. At this stage we do not have a commencement date for Winter Season 2020.
The Sharks are here to support our players and their families through this difficult time. We are keen to see everyone back on the court as soon as is practically possible. We will continue to communicate with you via club emails, and will let you know as soon as we hear any important news. The SBA are also posting regular updates on their website, which can be found at www.southernbasketball.com.au.
Stay safe, follow good hygiene and social distancing, check in on each other and hopefully we will be back on the courts in no time. Please share the above information with your team mates.
Thanks for your understanding on this matter.
Keep bouncing 🙂
